I love it when I get to try out new patterns as part of a blog tour, and although I don’t do as much of it anymore, it’s still a fun thing to share with you. Today I get to show you the Trendsetter Tankini from Winter Wear Designs as part of the Poolside tour–it’s all things summer!

I made a pretty simple version using View B for the top and a plain bottom in some super cute teal polka dot and teal stripes swim knit from Raspberry Creek Fabrics.View A is a racerback while View B has a fun strap that runs through a channel which I loved.

Earlier this summer was my first attempt at sewing swimsuits, so I’m still pretty new to this game, but I love that I can customize my girls’ suits to fit their bodies and give them the option to choose their style too. This little miss has been wanting a 2-piece like her sister, so we made it happen.

I made a size 3 width with a 6 length for the top and for the bottom rise. My kids tend to be tall and slender, so getting a suit to fit is often a challenge–unless I make it. I love that this suit keeps her covered and still lets her play hard.

I stuck to the pattern for the most part, but didn’t have any 3/8″ elastic on hand so I used 1/2″ elastic on the straps and waistband and 1/4″ on the leg openings. Of course I had to adjust the width of the strap pieces and make the channel bigger, but other than that I kept things the same. I also added a flutter ruffle to the front just to tie in the fabric from the bottoms and make it feel a bit more cohesive. I love that it’s just a bit of contrast.

And now she has something to wear to our family reunion coming up since we’re spending a day on the water.

There is also a giveaway that goes along with this blog tour with a GRAND PRIZE of 2 Winter Wear Designs patterns and a $50 gift card from Boho Fabrics (gotta love that!). You can enter the giveaway in the Winter Wear Designs Fun FB group. And don’t forget to check out all the other stops on this tour–there’s so much summer inspiration!

I really enjoy seeing the outfits you make. You are so creative with it. I have never made a bathing suit, but, if I did, I would want one just like the one you made. You have a great eye for style and detail.

Just love it!

Happy summer!

Very cute suit and many other cute outfits! There is one that I was hoping to get a pattern for that I found on one of your sites. It looks like it may not be available to get as the pattern won’t download for me. Is there any way that I can get the pattern for the origami dress? I would love to make it for some of my grandaughters! Thank you and amazing job on your designs!
