Do you ever see something in a store, and think it’s absolutely beautiful? A while back I was in Pier 1, and saw a beautiful ruffle pillow (that isn’t online anymore). On clearance it was still over $20 though, and I wasn’t about to go for it. I was looking at it, and knew that it would be simple–although a little time consuming–to make one of my own.

So, I came home and pulled some fabric out of my stash, and started ruffling. And ruffling, and ruffling. There was a lot of ruffling. I decided to make a sham for this pillow. Since my pillow wasn’t a square like the one I based it off of, I had to figure out how I wanted the ruffles to lay.

I cut out a rectangle for the front, and two pieces for the back to make an envelope style sham, then I pinned ruffles on the front piece several times before deciding on spirals instead of the waves from the inspiration pillow. I just liked the offset spirals on the rectangle.

After pinning, I started sewing them down–little by little. It took a while to follow the spiral around and around. Most of the pillow front is covered in a single (long) ruffle, but I did have to go back in and fill spots with smaller ruffle pieces. Pinning, placing, and sewing all those individual pieces took a while as well. But I really liked how it looked.

When the front was complete, I sewed the front to the back pieces (like I did in this tutorial), and stuffed my pillow inside.

I put it on the couch that night, and the next morning, Saige noticed it. She immediately wanted to lay on it. Later, I noticed that my ruffle pillow was gone, but her little pillow was on the couch in its place. She had taken it to her bed, claiming it as her own.

What do you think? Would you make a ruffle pillow?
